Games provide hours and hours of fun, some even become iconic enough to define eras.
Many companies do their best to create a sequel or two but not everyone can be Call of Duty lucky when it comes to future sales.
One clever way many gaming companies are increasing their profits is through feature film versions of their games.
Examples of this include Angry Birds, Assasins Creed, Hitman and very recently Netflix announced a possible The Witcher movie in the making.
There’s still so many films that we would love to see converted from gaming screens to the big screen, here’s ours list of 17 games we would like to see movies made of.
17 video games that should be made into films
Saints Row
If any one remembers Saints Row – the early versions of the game, you’ll have very fond memories.
This open world game was an alternative version to GTA and did very well early on before things got unrealistic and silly.
A movie based on the first game featuring the Third Street Saints trying to take over the territories of the other gangs would make for an exciting film. With most original Saints Row players now being in their 30’s, it makes for a large potential audience of teenagers and millennials.
Crackdown
Crackdown was like no other game in it’s time. You played as a futuristic cop that had access to advanced tech.
This tech included an exo-skeleton, weapons, vehicles and more. Your character had super strength, speed and jumping due to this exo-skeleton allowing for some amazing free-running.
A film made around this topic would be similar to Robo-cop, but if the directors kept to the game’s script, it could easily achieve it’s own identity.
Impressive scenes could include running on water, free-running across buildings and everyday modern police work made to look easy.
Halo
Halo is a little different. For years a Halo movie was in the making, then the plan was scrapped and District 9 was made instead based around the concept of Halo.
Rumours are, that the directors didn’t think modern technology would be good enough to do the game justice. It’s hard to argue with that logic. If you’re a fan of Halo as I believe the directors were, you would want to give the best possible tribute.
If done well, Halo would make as much money as Avatar if not more. Everyone from 25 to 40 played Halo religiously at somepoint, it’s one of the only games with a gripping storyline and fantastic campaign mode.
Mario Kart
A Mario Kart game inspired by Wreck It Ralph or something similar with a storyline behind more than just the racing would be very impressive.
My girlfriend thinks a Luigi film where he’s trying to climb out of the shadow of Mario would be a good concept.
Splinter Cell
According to reports, a Splinter Cell film featuring Tom Hardy is in the works.
Having a stealthy James Bond would be an extremely cool concept, hopefully they make this film as violent and graphic as it needs to be.
Watch Dogs
Could the timing be any more perfect for this film?
We live in a world where people don’t trust authority and have turned to tech to fight back.
A film about hackers who aren’t simply sat behind a computer would be very interesting. This is probabaly the most likely film to be made from this list behind Splinter Cell.
Timesplitters
Less likely to be made but how great would it be to see this? Zombies, time travel and a range of characters/guns.
The storyline would need some work otherwise things would feel very random, but this one has potential under the right director and script writer.
The Last Of Us
Zombie survival movies are a guarenteed profit route. The Last Of Us has the potential to be the greatest zombie movie in history.
Bloons Tower Defense
Bet you didn’t expect to see this one on the list?
Angry Birds has been so successful so why can’t Bloons by NinjaKiwi?
A film where a monkey society made up of ninja monkeys, super monkeys, pilot monkeys and wizard monkeys fighting against a bloon invasion is sure to put people in seats.
Zelda
Very few companies want to take this task on very much like Halo due to the risk it carries.
It’s like singing I will always love you by Whitney Houston, it’s a no-go.
Buttt…just imagine the big open scenes, gliding around and the creatures, what a game this is and what an unbelievable film this would make.
God Of War
This is a must! If anyone from a movie company is reading this, start on production immediately.
It would be impossible not to make this film successful. The characters, their abilities, the locations and the bad guys, all the pieces are there, just cast well and grab a camera.
Gears Of War
Gears Of War features a group of suspiciously muscular soldiers fighting the Locust, a race of monsters who were hiding below Earth’s surface.
The beginning of this film would be facinating, if the storyline can stay strong in the middle and end, I’m sure this could become a franchise.
Bioshock
Taking place in 1960 in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, where Jack, sole survivor of a plane crash, discovers the entrance to an underwater city at the end of a civil war.
If that description doesn’t grip you then I don’t know what will. The range for special effects on this film are unlimited. With Aquaman doing a great job with underwater scenes perhaps Bioshock could follow on in a different way.
Fallout
Fallout has so many fans and possible storylines that this would be as bankable as a Marvel movie.
Just imagine some of the landscapes in a post-apocalyptic world, with robots and mutants, now that’s a script!
Skyrim
Skyrim very much has a chance of being this generations Lord Of The Rings.
With the success of Game Of Thrones I think the timing is perfect. Dragons, various races, medieval weapons, magic and multiple environments, that’s a huge mix of popular topics.
See our article; Call of duty maps in real life
Farcry
Some of the best villains you could hope for and thanks to face capture tech, the characters would be identical because well…it’s the real actors.
Due to Farcrys success they’ve had a chance to create multiple games and storylines. Farcry 5 see’s you star as a sherifs deputy to take down a doomsday cult that are running the montana region. That does sound like a very cool film in our opinion.
The Sims
IF and it’s a big if, they could make a Sims movies in a similar way to how the Lego Movie was made then it’s a dead certain goldmine.
Think about how many people have played The Sims and how many pop culture references there would be to drop along with the story-telling.
