There’s a lot of purchases that you doubt in hindsight, but a gym membership isn’t one of those purchases.

Paying a reasonable and affordable set fee each month to use facilities that cannot be emulated at home or anywhere else is already justifiable. Throw into that the fact that you can use those facilities everyday for as long as you want as many times as you want and there’s no doubting you got a good deal.

However if someone said to you that your gym membership would be £163/$205 you would probabaly stop and question whether that was a good deal for a gym membership.

That’s the case at London based gym and largest luxury gym in Europe – Third Space situated in the heart of Canary Wharf. That is the case, until you see what you’re getting for your money in the 100,000 sq ft and 200 class per week training centre.

Swim

Looking more like your local leisure centre, the Canary Wharf Third Space gym has a giant pool complete with 4 very wide lanes that would comfortably fit 16 people at a time without awkward hand or leg touches that tend to happen in smaller pools.

4 lanes may have been purposely designed for breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly and backstroke, that way equal speeds are achieved.

Facilities include;

  • 23m swimming pool with the latest in UV technology that works very much like sunlight to keep the pool as pure as possible and better for your skin.

  • Menthol infused steam and sauna

  • Scuba diving lessons for members and non-members

The yard

The yard is where you expect to see heavily perspirated t-shirts. Built for those in love with crossfit, dynamic and functional movement, the yard is the perfect area to build a physique that’s strong, mobile and consists of lean muscle.

Facilities include;

  • London’s largest functional muscle space.

  • Sled track/short sprint track

  • Large multi-function rig

Train (The playground)

The train area is for those hardcore gym nuts who think benchpress, squats and deadlifts aren’t enough. Complete with rings, tires, parallel bars and ladders, this area will push your body to it’s limits. This area goes as far as your mind lets it, expect to see a lot of creative and sometimes questionable exercises being performed here.

Facilities include;

  • Rings/TRX

  • Gymnastic facilities

  • SAQ’s (Speed, agility, quickness training)

Lift

AKA meat-head heaven. This is where the big heavy weights are thrown around. If you’re looking to build some serious muscle then this area will do just that for you. Complete with sufficient space for a high number of users, asking others how many sets they have left will be a thing of the past.

Facilities include;

  • UK’s largest free-weight space

  • 110 pieces of strength training equipment

  • Staffed by experts to provide advice and spotting

Cycle

Fit with more than enough bikes, expect to experience rubbery legs from the expert spin classes.

Facilities include;

  • 85 bikes

  • Mood lighting

  • IC7 bikes that track data

High intensity studio

The high intensity studio will help with your cardio needs. It could be a great room for circuit training.

Facilities include;

  • Signature classes

  • Adaptive lighting

  • Surround sound

Combat

An area I was particularly interested in when I visited last month, the combat area is built for boxing and mma enthusiasts. This area is so useful, whether you’re looking to get a sweat on, punch away a hard day or master your skills, the combat area does it all.

Facilities include;

  • Boxing ring

  • Range of punch bags

  • MMA mats

Climb

There aren’t many gyms that have a giant climbing wall towering over the main entrance but that’s exactly what meets you when you enter the Third Space gym in Canary Wharf. For those who like to mix up their training and do something different this is a fantastic addition.

Facilities include;

  • 25 routes to the top

  • 4+ to 7B French grading system

  • 13 metres in height

Mind & body

Mind and body has become as important to health and fitness as strength and cardio over the past decade and in the busy high pressure Canary Wharf environment it’s certainly needed.

Facilities include;

  • Yoga

  • Barre

  • Meditation

Extras

Training is the focal point of any gym, but paying the premium prices gets you those extra bonuses that bring everything together.

These include;

Spa

– everything you need to relax after a week of work and working out

Medical

– including private medical and sports medicine

Fitness food

– nutritionists, chefs and meal plans

Personal training

– as you’d expect PT sessions are available with a range of coaches

World class changing rooms

– the changing rooms look spectacular and are complete with all standard facilities plus even a wash, dry and fold service for your rented locker so you never have to forget your kit again

The Pearson Room bar

– the gym has it’s own bar/restaurant that users can visit after a hard workout
