Top Gear featuring Clarkson, Hammond and May, now known as the Grand Tour on Amazon, is perhaps the greatest TV show in the history of humankind.

Whatever it’s called, whichever platform it’s on, the combination of those three men creating a car show, mixed in with a travel show including elements of a comedy sketch show, is the perfect balance of entertainment.

Watched in more countries than any other show, Top Gear/The Grand Tour has given audiences some of their greatest viewing moments.

The pinnacle of these shows are the specials. The Top Gear and now Grand Tour specials saw the brilliant trio travel the world to take on tough challenges on a range of terrains in various cars. The viewing figures for the specials are still way above anything the new Top Gear has ever come close to.

So what are the best Top Gear and Grand Tour Specials of all time?

15 Best Top Gear and Grand Tour Specials of All-Time

All specials will be one’s involving Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

15. Seamen

The first episode in Season 4 of the Grand Tour. According to reports all further episodes will be specials as the viewing figures are much higher. Episode 2 has leaked as a special episode in Madagascar.

The infamously named Seamen saw the boys in boats and traveling around Cambodia at Siem Reap, winding downriver to Tonlé Sap lake, before joining the Mekong Delta and sailing into Vietnam.

Boats added an entirely new dimension to what normally is a car show, proving that Top Gear/The Grand Tour is the world’s greatest travel show first and a car show second.

14. India

The India special sees the guys head over to India on a trading mission NOT comissioned by then PM David Cameron.

The purpose of the trip was to promote UK goods to sell to India. After a terrible trip, the party goes just as badly.

13. Middle East

In the Middle-East special the guys feared for their lives as they tried to get to the baby Jesus. However, after realising the Middle-East was pretty nice they were able to relax and enjoy the beauty of the region.

12. Patagonia

In the Patagonia special the lads take a trip through Chile and Argentina where they encounter some of the most beautiful places they’ve ever visited.

However the local Argentinians aren’t too happy at the Falklands number plate.

This episode features some of the best shots every featured.

9. Burma

The Burma special is another 2 parter. This special saw the team traveling around in lorries through some of the most difficult terrain they’ve ever faced.

In the second half, they’re forced to build a bridge over the “wrong” river in order to complete their challenge.

8. USA (2007)

One of the earliest specials that really helped to build the Top Gear audience. This episode saw the guys purchasing cheap cars in Florida and driving across the South before they get chased out for left wing slogans being written on their cars.

7. Feed the World

In this special the guys attempted to deliver fish to a part of the world in Mozambique where food is difficult to find.

Maybe the most famous 2 parter. From the Grand Tour, this special sees the boys travel across some of the most diverse terrain in the world. Their challenge; to capture wildlife photos for Amazon.

1. Mongolia

In my opinion, the greatest episode of any TV show in history. A masterclass in script writing, location spotting and producing.

The Grand Tour team are dropped in the middle of a Mongolian desert with 3 crates that contain car parts. They are then told to assemble a car and get driving.

The terrain, views and challenges they face over the days have you routing for them every step of the way.
