When things aren’t going too well most see things as a negative. But as many of you know this isn’t the 1STMAN way.

We regularly turn negatives into positives, such as our YouTube video on “Why Fat Guys Should Lift Heavy“. Therefore we’re going to do the same with this same concept.

3 out of 4 American men are overweight with many being obese. This is perhaps the greatest opportunity in male history.

3/4 American Men are Overweight

If everything is going badly for the majority of people then there’s usually an opportunity for a small group of hyper-aware individuals.

Think about recessions. The majority of people really struggle during these periods. Financially they come out of a recession with a lot less than they went into it with. Many lose businesses, jobs, marriages and more.

However there’s a select group of individuals who are able to navigate recessions and come out the other side with more money and less competition.

The same is true for fitness and the current state of American men. “In the world of the blind, the one eyed man is king”. In a world where everyone is overweight the guy who’s in shape is also king.

The Numbers Game

Of course, there’s going to be other men who are in shape. In fact there are always going to be other men in as good as, if not better shape than you, regardless of how hard you train.

But that’s not really the point. The aim here is to place yourself within the top 20% of men in America. This is considered the bracket of men who are sleeping with 80% of the women in America.

The criteria to enter this club could come in the form of being great looking, being successful, rich and so on. The easiest way to acquire your membership in a country where around 114 million out of 152 million are overweight is of course to get in shape. The level to which you take this the better the results will be.

An in shape American man gives himself a good chance of sitting among the top 38 million. Divide those men equally around the 50 states which I know isn’t accurate but it paints a nice picture; 760,000 in shape men, or at least men who aren’t overweight in any US state.

That’s certainly a lot less competition than 152 million men.

Rising up the Rankings

Getting in shape in 2020 is a cheat code especially in developed parts of the world where most people eat junk food around the clock.

The fun really begins when you start climbing that ladder. Being in shape simply means you’re not overweight and you qualify. 21% body fat is the borderline for being an overweight man in America, which means you have around 11% of body fat breathing space between you and the other guys in this elite category. This would take you down to 10% body fat which is considered athlete level. At this stage you’re going to be competing with around 10,000 – 20,000 men in each state on average.

The better shape you can be in, which includes building muscle not just burning body fat, which is a whole other area to exploit, the easier life becomes for a man. In fact I would go as far as saying that a 12% body fat man with decent amounts of lean muscle at the age of 35 has access to around 90% of the women in his area, if he’s got at least an average income or above.

The Compound Effect

If you want to see the true benefit of being in shape, then remain in shape well into your 50’s. Each year beyond 18, the number of in shape guys thins dramatically. As men find alcohol, partners, they have kids, get a full time job, etc, they have less time for exercise (or so they think) and instead begin to lose their naturally youthful body to the joys of life.

A man who’s in shape at 40 will be a very rare specimen. Likely dating women in their late 20’s and early 30’s that any man would want. Especially as your late 40’s tend to be your peak earning years for a man, it’s a time in your life when you can really bring all areas together to culminate into an outlier male.
