Everyone wants to be shredded, losing body fat may be the most searched fitness term in the history of the industry.
With that being said, why do people continue to search for the term? Surely by now we’ve cracked it right?
Truth is most people have no idea what they’re talking about when it comes to fitness and simply prey on the desires of others.
Myself and Steve Walker decided to get together and work on a video project that covered a bunch of exercises that build muscle and consequently burn fat.
This is something that’s often overlooked, especially for men. We have to build a good amount of muscle prior to burning fat. This is why we put together 25 exercises that will do just that.
25 Best Exercises for Burning Body Fat

Seated Row
The seated row is a super exercise for building a range of muscles, along with getting your heart rate up. Take someone who thinks they’re fit and put them on a rowing machine for 5 minutes at full speed, they’ll think differently. Some of the greatest athletes in history have been rowers, it really is one of the toughest sports ever created.
Press ups to Sprint Circuit
As Steve mentions in the video this movement activates PHA or peripheral heart action which sends blood from the upper body into the legs and back again which increases fat burning.
Battle Ropes
An exercise that will have you dripping in sweat whilst building some serious lean muscle in your back and in your arms.
Medicine Ball Twists
A cardio based version of an ab exercise. Everyone wants to reveal their abs, this is the perfect exercise to get them popping.
Swimming
Often overlooked, swimming with all of it’s various strokes, uses more muscles than any other exercise. As Steve says, you’re using your core, arms, chest and legs, not to mention when you’re in water you burn more fat.
Russian Twist
The russian twist applies constant strain on your core, whilst increasing your heart rate due to the amount of muscles being used to hold you in position.
Stair Climbs
One you can do in the gym, or on a nice day, one you can do outside in good weather. Climbing stairs is hard, epsecially if you go at a decent speed.
Shuttle Sprints
Running to one point and back again forces your body to slow down and speed back up again, the two periods when your body is activating the most muscles. Do a set of 10 around 10m apart and watch the fat drip off.
Turkish Get-Up
You could be a super athlete and this exercise will still be hard. The ability to stand from a flat start and slowly bring yourself back down, activates an incredible range of muscles. Although the movement is slow and controlled you’ll find yourself breathing very heavily if the weight being used is challenging enough.
Deadlift
A compound king – the deadlift forces nearly every muscle in the body to work together which equates to an incredible amount of fat burning.
Russian Twist Variation
Using a landmine, bar and plate, you’re able to perform a standing russian twist with a far greater range of movement which increases fat burning and strengthens your core.
Lunge into Press
Another exercise that activates PHA, pushing the blood from the legs into the upper body, activating a range of motion and bumping that fat burning up.
Single Arm Snatch
Because you’re only using one arm and the range of motion is vast, your core will be essential here, as will your shoulders.
Medicine Ball Sit Up
Like a standard sit up, but with the added difficulty of having to control, throw and catch a medicine ball, something that requires a lot of power.
Squat to Overhead Press
Two massive fat burning exercises combined into one. Compound to compound is sure to skyrocket your fat burning, control the movement and make the most of this one.
Sinister 6 Circuit
Containing 6 overhead presses, right into 6 close grip pull ups, followed by a dumbbell clean and press. Into the 2nd half now, goes straight into a wide grip pull up, followed by an upright plate row and finishing off with a triceps plate extension.
Single Arm Sled Drag
A destroyer of men, this exercise is an elite movement, activating the core due to the imbalanced nature. Using legs and upper body, this exercise will melt the fat.
Sled drag and push
My personal favourite fat burning exercise. This movement is the cardio king, you’ll be drained after 4 or 5 of these back to back. The more weight you add the better the gains.
Tyre Flip
A movement that forces you to generate power from a squat position, then continue that energy output until the flip. Repeat 5 or 6 times in a row and make your way back, the fat burning potential is massive.
Farmers Walk
Using your legs and upper body, the faster you move the more fat you’re going to burn, especially if you add some challenging weight.
Press-up – Burpee – Pull-up
It doesn’t get much harder than this, even one of these will have you breathing heavy, try 10, take a break and go again.
Plyometric Pushup
Exploding from one arm to the other whilst keep your core strong is a great way to activate a large muscle range and burn fat.
Handstand Pressups
You’re going to breathe heavy and get a sweat on, but this is all about the sheer amount of strength and power needed to perform this exercise.
Shoulder Sled Drag
Just from the pain on Steve’s face you know this is a tough one. A relentless exercise, pumping your legs, relying on your core and working shoulder strength, get this right and fat will wish it never stuck to you.
Sled Sprints
Sprints on their own are great, add a giant weighted sled behind you and the muscle usage needed to move forward is legendary.
