With the 17/18 Premier League season about to begin, Manchester City are many football fans favorites to win the title.

So what is it that’s making City stick out over the rest of their competitors?

Assists

Other than the obvious quality and depth of the squad, City have a major weapon purposely built by Pep Guardiola.

Pep is a big fan of players who can create chances. His entire phillosophy has been built upon working the ball up the field and probing for opportunities without wasting possession.

He’s also very keen on what he calls, “creating superiorities”

This simply means having a 2 on 1 situation, a 3 on 2 situation and so on just as long as his team have more men in that area. It’s why he’s so keen on overlapping full-backs.

Chance creation is nothing more than law of averages. Place the world’s worst striker up top and give him 50 chances to score. He probabaly leaves the field with a hatrick of tap-ins.

Now place Aguero and Jesus up top and you have two players with very high chance conversion rates.

With the amount of assists that Man City have created in the past, they’ve become well known as a high scoring team. This season however, it seems as though Pep has added another 3 assist kings and wants to push on with this strategy furthermore.

Last Season’s Assists In All Competitions:

De Bruyne: 22

D. Silva: 14

Sterling: 16

Sane: 6

Walker: 6

Mendy: 12

B.Silva: 10

Total: 86

This also doesn’t include the likes of Danilo, Gundogan, Toure and even Ederson who’s known for his long and direct passes.

Pep Guardiola has created an assist machine that will be extremely hard to stop next season. With chances being created from the right, left, centre and deep left and right positions, it means that City’s opponents will need near perfect defending across 90 minutes in order to keep a clean sheet!
